Overcoming the Shame of Talking About Finances

Jun 09, 2016 | 22 videos

Nearly half of Americans would have trouble finding $400 in an emergency, including the author Neal Gabler. In his May 2016 Atlantic cover story, he expands upon the fragility of the middle class and his own financial illiteracy. As part of a collaboration between The Atlantic and PBS NewsHour, Judy Woodruff interviews Gabler on how he decided to open up about the state of his finances. Gabler’s story is called “The Secret Shame of Middle-Class Americans,” and can be found online or in The Atlantic’s May issue.
